This educational experience consists of an interactive workshop tailored to the school's specific topic of interest. Afterward, a student field trip to Las Baulas National Marine Park is arranged, featuring a guided tour, an in-depth look at ongoing conservation work, and the implementation of the action plan developed during the workshop.

Important considerations

  • Wildlife encounters (including sea turtles) are unpredictable and cannot be guaranteed.

  • Depending on the season, weather conditions may include extreme heat, high humidity, and heavy rain.

  • All participants are required to have accident insurance with repatriation coverage for non-residents.

Why it matters

Las Baulas National Marine Park in Guanacaste protects diverse ecosystems that serve as habitat or breeding grounds for endangered species, such as the Eastern Tropical Pacific leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea), the mangrove hummingbird (Amazilia boucardi), the yellow-naped amazon parrot (Amazona auropalliata), and numerous other species across land, coast, and sea.

Rapid urban development and population growth threaten the integrity of this region. Therefore, this project aims to highlight the importance of this protected area, the wildlife it safeguards, and the ongoing conservation challenges and efforts. Additionally, we seek to put into action ideas and activities that foster students' personal and professional growth in harmony with their natural environment.

  • School visit and workshop led by a marine biologist.

  • Welcome and guided tour of Las Baulas National Marine Park by a certified bilingual guide (ID: 423-ICT).

  • Visit to the sea turtle nursery.

  • Implementation of the student-developed action plan.

  • Contribution to environmental education projects.

  • Permits, administrative fees, and taxes.
