Tatiana is a young girl visiting Las Baulas National Marine Park in Guanacaste with her parents. Her beach nap is interrupted by a mangrove hummingbird who asks for her help to investigate what happened to Aura, the leatherback sea turtle who disappeared without a trace and should have already returned to nest. This search turns into an adventure-filled journey featuring fascinating encounters with many local species, who share what is happening in the park and surrounding areas and how to prevent species like Aura's from disappearing.

What is it about?

Published as a bilingual English–Spanish edition, the book centers on the impacts of climate change and other human threats to Eastern Tropical Pacific leatherback sea turtles, highlighting the urgent need to protect their marine and terrestrial habitats, including Guanacaste’s Las Baulas National Marine Park and its area of influence.

Why it matters

To raise awareness among children and young adults about the importance of protecting endangered species and their habitats—such as the critically endangered Eastern Tropical Pacific leatherback turtle—while encouraging habits and sustainable practices that support their conservation.
